Our Music

Our Music

We have a rich tradition of music at FCCW. Whether you sing, ring or simply have an appreciation for the arts, there is a place for you in our music ministry.

Sanctuary Choir

Our volunteer choir provides musical leadership at different times during the church’s program year (September through the end of May.) We perform a range of musical styles and have singers with a variety of abilities and backgrounds. New members are always encouraged and welcomed! Rehearsals have traditionally been on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. before worship.

Special Music

Ensembles of church members, friends and guest musicians often provide special music ranging from the traditional showcasing of hymns and other sacred music to the more contemporary sounds of barbershop quartets, jazz trios, American bluegrass and pop-influenced folk songs.

Organ

Beginning in 1916, FCCW installed its first pipe organ at the cost of $7500. It was replaced in 1959 by another pipe organ for the cost of $27,000.

Years later, when the idea of an electric organ was proposed, we went to work. In 1998, after an exhaustive review and proposal process, our current organ was installed in the sanctuary at the cost of $60,000.

The Rogers 950 is a comprehensive 3 manual organ with a total of 76 stops. It recreates the precise realism of a fine pipe organ and is housed in a custom finish oak console with a locking roll top. This magnificent instrument has provided years of enjoyment as the backdrop to our chancel choir and an accompaniment to the Sunday worship service.

Sound Sanctuary Series

In November 2024, we kicked off the inaugural performance of our Sound Sanctuary Series. Members and long time musicians Jeanne T. Arrigo and Jim O’Donnell headlined this hour long show of favorite songs from the last 50 years.

We built a stage and decked out our basement as a perfect backdrop for live music on a Sunday afternoon. The idea is to open our church doors to the wider community and provide opportunities for friends, neighbors, and budding local artists to gather together and enjoy a variety of music performed by local artists. Plans are in the works for for several exciting events during the year.
